Company Profile

WSI Corporation was founded in 1978 and is based in Andover, MA, with an additional Forecast and Operations center located in Birmingham, England. WSI is owned by Landmark Communications, a privately held company based in Norfolk, VA. Landmark also owns The Weather Channel and weather.com which in combination with WSI represents the largest private weather company in the United States.

WSI's unmatched database of real-time, value added weather data and graphics, combined with the most automated and technically advanced forecast center in the industry sets WSI apart from all others in the industry. WSI provides mission critical weather data to three primary markets:

Energy

Supplying services to organizations that engage in the trading of energy. Clients include Shell, Dynegy, Constellation, and many financial banks. Services are also provided to organizations involved in the transmission and distribution of energy including Entergy, Progress Energy, and National Grid.

Aviation

Serving Major Airlines (including United, American, Delta, US Airways), Air Carriers (such as Federal Express, and UPS), the FAA, Fixed Base Operators (FBO's), and Corporate Aircraft. Over 80% of all domestic flights are briefed with WSI products before departure.

Television

Providing weather data, graphical display systems, and forecasting services to over 375 television stations worldwide. Companies being served include CNN, The Weather Channel, FOX News Channel, and local network affiliates in all 50 states. Over 100 million people view WSI products daily.

WSI has positioned itself to be the complete source for weather information. Our forecasting operations are surrounded by the most comprehensive weather database in the private sector. To ensure our forecasters and clients have the most timely data in the industry, WSI maintains ground stations which receive worldwide satellite imagery as well as direct circuits to the National Weather Service to ensure immediate receipt of data the moment it becomes available. No other forecasting operation has this level of data. In fact, many weather forecasting companies rely on WSI for their real-time weather data.

Forecasting is an essential component of WSI's operation as it forms the basis for unique data content and leverages our automation expertise. Behind our forecasting infrastructure is a team of research meteorologists tasked with improving the science of weather forecasting. From running global climate models to improve weather prediction up to three months in the future, to running complex algorithms to forecast storm movement the next 60 minutes, WSI is investing to ensure our position as an innovator in the weather world.
